About
Nick Faragher was born in Manchester, England in 1945.
He moved to Greece in 1967 and supported himself, for the most part, by teaching
English. ‘The Watch Seller’, one of the stories in his debut collection, suggests
he found other ways to get by. A year or so later he moved to Italy where he
got by in a similar haphazard fashion.
Back in England, marriage, two children and an M.A. in Criminology preceded a
move to Canada in 1979. Nick worked as a parole officer, briefly taught criminology,
then became a chairing member of the Ontario Board of Parole until moving to
B.C. in 1990. He lived a year or two in Central America before moving back to
B.C. where he and his second wife operated a small coffee house on Bowen Island.
Whilst a background of living in many different countries is central in much
of Nick’s work, a good part of his writing has its roots in the years he worked
as a parole officer and in preparing personality profiles for criminal courts.
A wider more diverse audience was reached with articles for national, provincial,
and local, magazines and newspapers. His attitude toward fiction is that it should
stay true to life.
Nick lives and works in Vancouver, British Columbia.
